Spicy news on Asaram Bapu…

Dainik Bhaskar‘, a specialist in playing sub-standard tricks in creating page layouts and skills of publishing spicy news items with misleading headlines, has recently come down to such a low standard that may be termed as being number one in the current trend of yellow journalism prevalent in national print media.

It is least said the better about the great craze Bhaskar created of its ‘lofty journalism’ a while ago by publishing the pathetic picture of a lady being served with meal on the floor in a reputed hospital of Ranchi without even focusing on the details of the matter. On the following day, after a detailed report of the matter was published by Dainik Jagran, the tumultuous controversy that erupted had hardly subsided when Bhaskar came up with its yet another new crafty act. This time, in an attempt to publish a sensational spicy news on Sant Asharam Bapu, it presented such a fabricated news item that it gave rise to a huge controversy.

The matter is related to Sant Asharam Bapu’s health check up in AIIMS  (Delhi) as per the directives of the Supreme Court. A few days back, Bapu had been brought to Delhi for medical checkup by the Jodhpur police aboard a private airliner under all-round heavy security. Various health checkups continued for next three days in different departments of AIIMS. Meanwhile, a superhuman reporter of Bhaskar happened to cover and publish such an incident that actually never took place. Many other newspapers and news portals proved to be blind followers who without caring a bit to verify the reality of the matter went on to spread the completely imaginary news.

This is regarding a news item published in Bhaskar’s 25th Sep edition under the headline: ‘When nurse brought bread and butter for breakfast, 80-year-old Asaram having arrived from Tihar jail to AIIMS said you are like butter yourself, with cheeks like Kashmiri apples.’

Join us as we rip through this imaginary reporting filled with cheap wordings of Bhaskar’s superhuman reporter :

It may be noted that a petition by Sant Asharam Bapu in connection with the Jodhpur case is under consideration for hearing in the Supreme Court. The court had directed the Rajasthan police to provide tight security to Asharam Bapu both during his transit to Delhi and medical checkups in the AIIMS hospital because last time when Bapu was brought for health checkup large number of supporters had gathered. This issue was raised in the SC during previous hearings for bail. The police therefore had arranged for tight security this time and a batch of over 10 police staff would always guard him all through different departments of the AIIMS. It is but amazing that the superhuman reporter of Bhaskar managed to break this tight police cordon and continued his surveillance on each and every activity of Sant Asharam Bapu even during the checkups!

Even if we are to believe for once that the reporter was not there and the nurse might have told him about this; the subsequent enquiry with the AIIMS P.R.O revealed that no such incidence had taken place. Neither any nursing staff had complained of any such incidence, nor had the police registered or recorded any such incidence.

Sant Asharam Bapu is continuously suffering from health problems. The court has already given decision as per Doctors’ opinion to provide him with light and easily digestible food items from his ashram. The Supreme Court too had given permission for a personal attendant to accompany him to arrange for his food and to move around his wheel chair during his Delhi tour. This is plain false story that Bapu was served food by a nurse. All food items were supplied by his attendant.

It is worth noting here that Dainik Bhaskar has lately been running a campaign against Sant Asharam Bapu publishing meaningless and baseless news about him and has left no stone unturned towards (adversely) influencing the judicial process for his bail. And that is not all, even when the medical board submitted its sealed medical report during the course of hearing on the bail petition in the high court, newspaper used its ‘connections’ to procure that report and published it even before it was presented in the  court. During the recent tour of Delhi this newspaper right from the time when Bapu came out of jail, went to the airport and reached AIIMS kept publishing one matchless lie after another and kept fanning rumorous news. In a nutshell, Bhaskar editorial board is determined to pursue ‘supari journalism’ under instructions from their administrators.

To the editors of Dainik Bhaskar, yelling on ethics day in and day out under the garb of emotion filled conscientious campaigns targetting Hindu festivals and rituals, if are ready to set an example of revolutionary journalism, then have the guts to write about the rape charges against your own owner Ramesh Chandra Agrawal, chairman of D. B. Corp. While always super alert in the coverage of all matters on allegations against Asharam Bapu, why did you and your peers in media cover up the scandal involving Ramesh Agrawal using political influence ? The rape victim was warned and threatened. As a matter of fact, in 2014 a rape case was lodged against Ramesh Chandra Agrawal with the victim charging him of raping her for years together under the false assurance of marrying her. Did the news community had their mouth sealed then ? And if you can push a bit further, do you have the courage to write-publish something on the details about the recent ‘Panama Paper leaks’ revealing the huge hoard of black money stashed in the foreign countries by your own directors ? Or do you only have Asharam Bapu for faking news ?
